Text 1: The Blue Door
At the end of the lane stood a house with a blue door. Nobody had lived there for years. The grass grew as high as Tomas.
One Saturday a van pulled up. A woman got out with a ladder and a tin of paint. By teatime the blue door was bright yellow.
Tomas waved. The woman waved back. "I'm Nita," she called. "Come and see the garden when I've cut it."
1. What was the woman's name?
2.Now read Text 2 and answer these questions about BOTH texts.
Text 2: One Glove
Maya found one green glove on the wall by the bus stop. It was small, so it belonged to a child.
She could not just leave it. She pinned a note to the wall: FOUND — ONE GREEN GLOVE. ASK AT NUMBER 12.
For three days nobody came. On the fourth day a boy knocked. He had the other green glove in his hand.
1. How is this story different from "The Blue Door"?
2. How is Nita like Nell in "The Wobbly Tooth"?
3. How is this story different from "The Jar of Shells"?
