Market Day
On Saturdays, Grandpa took Omar to the market. Omar carried the basket. Grandpa carried the money.
Omar's job was to pick the apples. He learned to press each one gently with his thumb. A soft spot meant the apple would be brown inside.
One week Grandpa let Omar carry the money instead. Omar counted the change twice. He got it right both times.
1. Omar pressed each apple "gently". What does gently mean?
2.Read the text, then answer the questions.
Too Loud
The school band practised in the hall every Thursday. Sam played the drum. He liked it best when he could hit it hard.
"Softer," said Mrs Otu. "The flutes cannot be heard."
Sam did not want to play softly. But he tried it. This time he could hear the flutes too, winding above the drum like a bird. It sounded better than anything he had played before.
1. The flutes were "winding above the drum". What does that tell you about their sound?
