  1. 1.1. A beaver dam changes a whole valley, not just one family — supported by the silt, the wet ground and the rise in species.
  2. 2.1. A dam is built of wood and mud to change a river; a reef is built of calcium cups in the sea. 2. It ends by reporting that some researchers think the effect has been overstated. 3. Both are structures built by animals that create a habitat for many other species.
