  1. 1.1. Because the bell is the one thing that continues, so it is separated from what was lost. 2. The first three narrate; the last draws the conclusion and names what survived. 3. "mute as a stone among the gears".
  2. 2.1. "I would not know the chairs if I saw them in a window on a street". 2. "the habit of turning lights off". 3. So the last stanza can reveal that the habit was the real inheritance.
