Answer key — Summarize What You Heard

Set 2. Prints on its own sheet.

  1. 1.1. Smuggling collapsed almost overnight. 2. Tea reached Britain through a taxed monopoly that produced mass smuggling; coffee spread through coffee houses that became institutions — and neither plant grows here. 3. The East India Company.
  2. 2.1. That the cowpox they caught from cattle protected them from smallpox. 2. A vaccine shows the immune system a harmless piece of a pathogen so it keeps the antibody recipe, and above a coverage threshold it also protects those who cannot be vaccinated. 3. First, a vaccine teaches the immune system without the disease — supported by the antibody recipe. Second, protection is collective — supported by the threshold effect.
