One Glove
Maya found one green glove on the wall by the bus stop. It was small, so it belonged to a child. She could not just leave it. She pinned a note to the wall: FOUND — ONE GREEN GLOVE. ASK AT NUMBER 12. For three days nobody came. On the fourth day a boy knocked. He had the other green glove in his hand.

- 2. Where did she find it?
- 3. What does this story show about small kindnesses?
- 4. What did the boy have in his hand?
The Last Lap
Dee was fast. She won every race at sports day, and she knew it. In the relay, she ran the last lap. Her team was behind. Dee ran so hard that her chest burned, but the other runner crossed the line first. Dee sat on the grass. Her team came and sat with her. "You made up ten metres," said Ali. Dee had not thought about that. She had only thought about losing.
- 1. How many metres did Ali say she made up?
- 2. What lesson does this story teach?
- 3. Which lap did Dee run?
- 4. Was her team ahead or behind when she started?
