  1. 1.1. A thirsty crow could not reach the water in a pitcher, so she dropped in pebbles until the water rose — little by little does the job. 2. She noticed the pebbles on the path and began dropping them in.
  2. 2.1. Iosif joined the class without much English, stood alone at playtime, and made a friend by passing a football with Marta. 2. He stopped it neatly, rolled it back, and they passed it for ten minutes.
