Answer key — Reading Poetry at Grade 5

Set 22. Prints on its own sheet.

  1. 1.1. Because its history is irrelevant to its use now, which is the poem's argument. 2. The silent bell is compared to a stone — and the church's own stone was carted away, which ties the images together. 3. The building went by demolition and the faith went by change of belief; the poem sets the two losses side by side.
  2. 2.1. The person who died and whose things were divided — never named. 2. Getting rid of things. 3. It was kept for reasons that had nothing to do with usefulness.
