How a Bridge Stands Up
A bridge has to hold its own weight and the weight of everything crossing it. The simplest bridge is a beam: a flat piece laid across a gap. A beam bridge cannot be very long, or it sags in the middle. An arch bridge is curved. The curve pushes the weight out to the ends, where the ground is solid. That is why arch bridges can cross wider gaps.

How Milk Gets to the Shop
A dairy cow is milked twice a day, in the morning and the evening. The milk goes straight into a cold tank. Cold milk keeps fresh much longer than warm milk. A tanker takes the milk to a dairy. There it is heated for a few seconds to kill germs, then cooled again fast. This is called pasteurising. Last, the milk is poured into bottles and driven to the shop.
