Work It Out from the Story is a free printable Grade 1 English worksheet on answering something the story does not say outright, aligned to Common Core standard RL.1.1. It prints 2 questions with an answer key on its own sheet of paper, in 25 versions, 23 of them with different questions, so no two students in the class work from the same page. Print it from the browser or download it as a PDF — no account, no email.
Set 2 of 25 · the same problems every time you open this link.
Set 1 has all 25 in a single PDF. 23 of these 25 sets ask different questions — this skill does not have 25 questions to give. The rest reorder them, so no two students have the same paper in front of them.

The Last Lap
Dee was fast. She won every race at sports day, and she knew it.
In the relay, she ran the last lap. Her team was behind. Dee ran so hard that her chest burned, but the other runner crossed the line first.
Dee sat on the grass. Her team came and sat with her. "You made up ten meters," said Ali. Dee had not thought about that. She had only thought about losing.
1. Had Dee lost a race before? How do you know?
2. How is what Ali said connected to how Dee was thinking?
2.Read the text, then answer the questions.
The Boots by the Door
Priya's boots were too small. Her toes pressed against the ends. But they were red, and she loved them.
For a week she said nothing. Then she could not run at recess without it hurting.
She told her mom. Her mom did not laugh. They took the red boots to the thrift store and found a bigger pair, green this time. Priya kept the red ones by the door for a month before she let them go.
1. How is recess connected to Priya telling her mom?
2. Why did Priya keep the red boots by the door?
