Answer key — Reading a Grade 4 Story

Set 5. Prints on its own sheet.

  1. 1.1. Arachne claimed nobody taught her to weave, out-wove Athene in a contest, and was turned into a spider for it. 2. The goddess Athene. 3. Supremely skilled and unwilling to defer — she claims nobody taught her, challenges a goddess, and laughs at a warning. 4. Being right is not protection against power — Arachne's work was better and she was punished for it.
  2. 2.1. Rain. 2. Ninety years. 3. A place is what it is used for now — "A thing becomes what people make of it." 4. A quarry worked for ninety years filled with rain, its workings went under water, and the children who swim there call it a lake.
